Auto Insurance is Essential

Your vehicle is a heavy piece of machinery and is often a fairly costly investment—one that’s exposed to many potential losses most of which are out of your control. Car insurance can offer protection for you and others plus peace of mind while on and off the road.

Since your vehicle is often your biggest asset aside from your home—we’ll help you get the insurance coverage you want, and always at our best rate. Auto insurance helps to protect against potentially crippling financial losses and, with physical damage coverage, the inconvenience of being without transportation.

What Is Car Insurance?

Car insurance helps protect you against financial loss if you are responsible for someone else’s injuries or damages while driving your vehicle. It is a contract between you and the insurance company where you agree to pay the premium amount and, in turn, the insurance company agrees to help cover your losses as defined in your policy. States require auto insurance to help protect people involved in accidents that aren’t their fault.

Liability, Uninsured-Motorist and Medical/PIP

Car insurance required by a state is a bare minimum of liability-only coverage.  Liability in an auto insurance policy by definition cover unintentional damage to others while driving your vehicle for which you are liable (responsible).

Each state has its own requirements as to what it considers the minimum coverage allowable. Some, like Arkansas, Indiana or Ohio, may require only Liability. Others, Oklahoma or Missouri for instance, require Liability and Uninsured Motorist. Some states, like Kansas or Oregon, include Liability, Uninsured Motorist and Personal Injury Protection. So if you move into a new state, never assume it has the same requirements.

Liability Coverage

Liability coverage helps pay for your legal responsibility to others for bodily injury or property damage.

Uninsured-Motorist Coverage

Uninsured-Motorist coverage helps pay for bodily injury damages to you caused by a driver who does not have car insurance.

Medical/PIP

Medical/PIP (Personal Injury Protection) coverage helps pay for the cost of treating injuries.

The coverage limits you choose to carry can be from the basic, state-required limits up to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Beyond the minimum it’s up to you to decide if you are trying to protect your assets in the event of a loss or simply trying to be legal while driving.

Policy Terms

Most car policies are for six month terms, sometimes a year. Your insurance company notifies you by mail when it’s time to renew the policy with their new rate.  If you keep paying your premium, the coverage continues.

It’s the law. It’s also about protecting yourself financially.

If you are responsible for damage or injury to others, paying a monthly premium to help cover it is well worth it.

If you’re in an accident or your car is stolen, it costs money, often a lot of money, to fix or replace it.

If you or any passengers are injured in an accident, medical costs can be extremely expensive.

Not only is having insurance a prudent financial decision, but many states require you to have at least some coverage.

Here are a few things to consider as you prepare for the discussion:

  • How much can you afford to pay if you get in an accident? (To keep premiums low you may want to have a higher deductible and be willing to pay more for repairs.)
  • What is the insurance company’s level of service and ability to pay claims?
  • What discounts are available? (Ask about good driver, multiple policy and student discounts.)
